Ever since the explosion of clans into the online gaming scene in 1996, the term alliance has been used frequently in the context of online gaming teams. These alliances are seldom more than an official acknowledgement of the high respect each clan holds for another; due to the nature of online gaming seldom (if ever) is "military" support expected, and a coordinated sharing of resources (e.g. servers) is infrequent.

It is for these reasons that Steel Maelstrom has, for the most part, avoided establishing "alliances" with other online gaming teams. The sole exception to this is our alliance with Clan of the Camper (COTC). Even this relationship is more in title than deed, but we continue to honor it.

With the advent of Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOG's), such alliances may once again prove their worth. When this time comes, SMS will welcome entering such an agreement with other like-minded teams which meet our criteria.

The following online gaming teams are held in high regard by Steel Maelstrom, and are to be afforded every courtesy by our members as they should likewise expect. Clans not listed here hold no official relationship with SMS.
