Read This Stuff. It Will Make Or Break You.
You'd be surprised how many applicants to SMS totally ignore these pages. At some point or another, every single one of them learns about our rules the hard way -- and can end up getting kicked out, banned from our servers, and possibly mocked on our public news page for all the world to see.
All of this information here and in the Rules and Regulations is designed to help you make a decision: can you handle SMS? People with short attention spans or poor reading comprehension never can.
What is expected of me as a SMS member?
Steel Maelstrom has a set of guidelines which have evolved over the past few years; we call them the Rules & Regulations. They're long, probably not organized efficiently, and tend to scare off people. As a result, in October 2000 we came up with the "Top Ten."
Consider the Top Ten to be the Rules and Regulations in a nutshell. Everything you need to know to stay out of trouble in SMS, is right here:
- In SMS you will be treated like an adult and are expected to act like one; Cheating, lying, hacking, piracy, harassment or general rudeness is unacceptable.
- Asking questions is a good thing.
- Keep any passwords you may have to yourself.
- Take pride in your clan and try to improve it.
- Trainees are expected to attend four practices a month, members are expected to attend two.
- Be kind to newbies.
- Whenever you go out on the Net, remember that others view you as a typical SMS member; both your actions and the nickname you use shape people's impressions of SMS.
- Only high-ranking SMS members are able to speak for or act on behalf of the clan.
- Being a team player is more important than being a skilled player.
- Keep it fun.
That's it.
Of course, you could still read the Rules & Regs, but you don't have to. Follow those ten rules, and you'll be set. And, of course, other SMS members will be happy to answer your questions if they arise.
